I’ve got a bit of news to share, pertaining to my daylight hours. Many of you know that I’ve been working with a pretty small (but kick butt) company the last 9 months, and that I really like and admire the partners who run it. The job really helped me get back into the role of “do it all” in reference to web development… from initial meetings with the client to concept designs, building out the design with markup and css or with flash, working with digital video, etc. You name it, I did it. I even did some project management (more out of default than a desire to manage projects)…
Well, Pattie is now working at Scripps, and when I took a tour of her workplace a couple weeks after she started I was suitable impressed by the energy, creativity, and scope of the organization (despite it being corporate)… So I asked her to keep her ear to the ground for openings… not too much time passed until a part-time position opened up in the new Marketplace division. I’ll be doing production graphics, flash, and some css/markup for direct mail pieces, etc… and working with some very talented designers, programmers, copywriters and editors.
For me at this point in my career it was the right move. It was a hard decision though, as I really like my coworkers at Digital Media One and didn’t want to lose contact with them. Happily, they asked me to continue on part time with them as long as I can, which will allow the transition to go more smoothly for them, and allow me to keep a full plate vs truly working part time. The two jobs will add up to to 40-45 hrs a week, and I still have freelance work to do… and work on pastels, and the house, and nag Pattie to write, and feed the dogs and water the lawn.. oy!
Welcome to the corporate mothership, baby.
BTW, you should have used “suitably” instead of “suitable.” Hey, it’s what I do for a living.
