Jaded Mirth - Final

Jaded Mirth
This was really a fun painting for me, and I feel like I’m starting to glimpse how to mix colors, glaze, and layer properly. Let me know how you think it turned out!

An update of what my brush has been up to since early December

Heroes
This is a series I envision lasting for about a year in terms of completion. It basically comes from the very human tendancy to really look up to your elders when you’re very young, and the sense of wonder at how heroic they seem. So wise, so knowledgeable… yet at the same time human themselves… [...]

Inside Looking Out

A portrait of the artist’s favorite sister.

I have started painting the edges of the canvas now, because I like the way it looks, AND to avoid the added cost of framing… here’s what the sides look like:

So our garage is really packed with stuff… Furniture, mattresses, spare drywall, 2×4’s, 2×6’s, plywood, antique furniture, old tools, cardboard to be recycled, a wheelbarrow, camping gear, carpet we have left over and need to do something with, a seed spreader, etc. You get the idea.

Journey

My grandmother Celesta passed away in the early evening of October 7th, 2007. She was an amazing woman. A daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was greatly loved by everyone who knew her, and loved others greatly in turn. I miss her horribly.

Work, art, life and death

So after quitting as a contract hourly employee with scripps, having worked for them for a year, I went on vacations. For the first I braved the wilderness in the Boundary Waters. For the second, I braved wave after wave of uber-geekiness at GenCon in Indiana. On the way up to [...]

Vacation Redux - Precursor

Well I am now back home after getting back from Indianapolis, having gone up for a friend’s bachelor party/gamegeek vacation at GenCon, the Con dedicated to gaming in all its forms. We gamed a lot, we did. Myself, Greg, Ryan, Chris, David, Nat, Brad, Bryan, Caleb, J, John, and Jason stayed in 3 [...]

Vacation smacation

So most of the 3-5 jobs I thought I would be working on immediately once I went freelance either evaporated, or the “check is in the mail” (and has been since April, surreeeeee.), or is apparently inextricably caught up in red tape. This leaves me with lots of time and very little income.
What to [...]
